Class Descriptions

Ballet
Classical ballet, along with other variations of modern ballet, consists of warm-up and stretches at the barre’, combinations performed in the center of the classroom, as well as across the floor, followed by a routine and reverence at the end of class. Ballet class is the fundamental of almost every dance class, and is highly recommended by teachers and studios everywhere.

Pointe'
This is the ultimate form of ballet. Pointe’ is an art form where a dancer will undergo extensive training in ballet, pre-pointe and technique, as well as many hours of dance a week to perform on their toes in pointe’ shoes. Pointe’ dancers will only receive their pair of pointe’ shoes with teacher’s approval when they demonstrate strength, endurance, and grace over the course of several years. 

Jazz
Jazz class is usually upbeat and feisty, but other variations can be smooth and saucy depending on the choreographer. Flexibility and agility are greatly factored into jazz performances. Jazz instructors use buoyant music for the dancers to perform high kicks, leaps, turns, and to interpret not only traditional, but also nontraditional combinations.

Tap
Tap is a type of dance in which the rhythm and beats are being performed by dancers with metal plates on their shoes, all in synchronization.  

Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop is a dance form that is usually accompanied by hip-hop music to which the dancers put combination of popping, locking, breaking, and isolations into a performance. Hip-hop is best performed in large groups to create visually stimulating patterns and formations.

Modern
A free, expressive style of dancing, usually accompanied by contractions, falls, and a storyline. It is an abstract form of dance, and is a wonderful and beautiful escape from ballet

Contemporary
An expressive form of dance accompanied by many other elements of dance, such as ballet, lyrical, and jazz.

Lyrical 
Lyrical is an expressive form of dance; it is a soft mix of ballet and jazz dancing. The best way to describe lyrical is faster than ballet, but softer than jazz dancing.

Acro(batics)
A dance and showcasing art that is a combination of some of the same warm-ups from gymnastics, but when it comes to performances, it is combined with tricks and other dance forms, such as jazz or lyrical. This type of dance is performed on a mat and can be used in other dance styles.​
